EXTRA DATE ADDED DUE TO DEMAND!
Having sold out the first show at the incredible Union Chapel venue, we’ve added a 2nd date on Thursday 5th May. Matthew Halsall is a trumpeter whose unflashy, soulful playing radiates a thoughtful beauty and as a composer and band-leader, he has created his own rich sound world.
A sound that draws on the heritage of British jazz, the spiritual jazz of Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, as well as world music and electronica influences, and even modern art and architecture, to create something uniquely his own. A music that is rooted in Northern England but draws on global inspirations.
Expect music from his sublime back catalogue, together with unexpected covers and new compositions as Halsall and his colleagues explore spiritual and progressive, soulful jazz sounds for the 21st century.
Full lineup: Matthew Halsall trumpet, Matt Cliffe saxophone & flute, Alice Roberts harp, Liviu Gheorghe piano, Gavin Barras bass, Alan Taylor drums and Jack McCarthy drums.
