French hip-hop collective Chinese Man bring their eclectic beats for a rare London show

After a three year absence from the capital, French hip-hop collective Chinese Man return for a rare London show at the iconic O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

Chinese Man are well known for picking influences from the most abstract of places to make their sound all the more exciting. Over predominantly dubby beats, the collective embroider African, Asian and Latin influences with precise scratching and a mass of obscure samples. There’s no corner of the globe and no sound they haven’t conquered.

The group became widely known through the song “I’ve Got That Tune” which was chosen by Mercedes-Benz for its promotional campaign. Since then they have released 11 outstanding albums and have continued to push the boundaries of hip-hop by doing what no one else dares. Mixing cinematic themes with samples from the likes of Easy Rider and the Holy Mountain, while throwing in vocals from a whole host of guest artists including Scratch Bandits Crew, Fela Kuti, and Plex Rock, Chinese Man are always at the top of their game.

Support for the night comes from the groundbreaking talent that is South African rapper Yugen Blakrok. Growing up in the Eastern Cape and influenced by the political/militant and spiritual aspects of Hip-Hop, her music is firmly rooted in the mind-set of the 90’s, a deep lyrical and audio odyssey into the world around us, both seen and unseen.

Hip-Hop heads, don’t miss out on this night of unrivaled talent. This one’s going to be big.

“Such talent can be jaw-dropping at times” – Kemptation
